Travels,Trips, and Tips

"I’m a big believer in winging it. I’m a big believer that you’re never going to find perfect city travel experience or the perfect meal without a constant willingness to experience a bad one. Letting the happy accident happen is what a lot of vacation itineraries miss, I think, and I’m always trying to push people to allow those things to happen rather than stick to some rigid itinerary." ~Anthony Bourdain

Tips for planning your Central Texas BBQ Trip:

  1. If at all possible, fly into Austin. While Dallas has some great ‘Que, I flew into Big D because of price. Make Dallas/Ft Worth a separate trip.

  2. Rent a fun car. It doesn’t have to be a convertible, however there is A LOT of driving so you want to have something you enjoy.

  3. While you want to be flexible, pre-planning is a must, especially if you want to hit the most famous places. Bear in mind that some are closed specific days (such as Mondays) so you want to work your schedule around that.

  4. Timing is also everything. Many places cook BBQ as more of a lunch offering, as such, often run out of many items before dinner.

  5. Some of these places are cash only. Plan accordingly.

  6. Pace yourself, especially if you are planning on multiple restaurants per day. Many places offer meats sold by the pound, so order a little at a time and go back for more if you must. Minimize the sides as well, at least if you are going to a bunch of places in one day.

  7. Think about bringing a cooler for any leftovers, and certainly book hotels that have a refrigerator.

  8. Don’t miss out on the other things Texas has to offer. Checkout downtown Austin, some of the many wineries in the region, and great shopping everywhere.

  9. Consider using a travel agent to help you map out hotels, etc. Click here to get in touch with the official travel agent of the BaconMedic.

  10. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Winter in New England is a Jerk

It's snowing in New England and the BaconMedic needs Jerk Chicken. The solution? A quick flight and even quicker cab ride to the Ochos Rios Jerk Center. No problem mon!
